I was expecting the link to be more outrageous, but the fact that we’re deporting legal immigrants with green cards after nothing more serious than a traffic offense gave me pause, as a green-card holder going through naturalization myself. The assertion that the $60,000 a year cost of detaining someone would pay for a lawyer made me choke on my coffee though.
Of course the lawyers aren’t “free”. They’re not working free of charge. They are to be paid by U.S. taxpayers, who are already sixteen trillion dollars in debt and going farther in the red every hour.
