For context, this law arises out of a 1999 Supreme Court of Canada decision (Dobson (litigation guardian) v. Dobson) which held that a fetus (by its litigation guardian) can't sue its mother in these circumstances. The effect of that case was that a fetus could sue anyone but the mother (for example, if the father was a passenger and the mother was driving, there would be no such bar). Alberta's response is to do away with what it considers an anomalous exception rather than doing away with the right to sue entirely
