While it may seem that way, it’s not always the case. In the court I work in we had an egregious birthing case that left the baby dead and the mother retarded and blind. (Lack of oxygen during the birth.) After the plaintiff’s presented proofs the parties settled for 12 million.

When negligence on the part of the doctor is questionable at best, it’s in the millions of dollars, but when the doctors screw up horribly multiple times in succession, it isn’t even six figures.
