I recently did a complete restructuring and updating of my WordPress blog. One little plugin and all my links were restored. Never had a problem with the comments updating.

I once had an author of a peer-reviewed journal article argue that providing a(n) URL in an archived journal was appropriate because people always provide a forwarding link when the computer system changes.
