True story: my uncle (who is in his late 70s) would go hunting before school back in the day and store his gun in his locker once he arrived at school. Maybe he could have been disciplined for it, but it demonstrates that the 1958 scenario quoted in the main article has a legitimate basis. It was a small but liberal and fairly affluent town in southern Minnesota, in case anyone is curious.

I enjoyed the comment about the black kid trying to get in to school but Bull Conners stood in the way. Then in 2008, he got in. What that commenter did not include was any indication of the variance between 1958 education (reading, writing, math, science) and 2008 (Sally has two mommies, English as a second language, everyone gets an A, and “give me a C and I’ll sue”). I could go all night long on this one. Where is Theodore Cleaver when you need him?

It is a shame that I don’t find this funny at all. The worst part,is that these “zero tolerence” incidents are removing any credability that our school system has for dicipline.

Oh, by the way. Pedro didn’t start cutting grass right after high school. He went to a local Community College, where after beating the hell out of one of his teachers, the local authorities tried to have him deported. The ACLU intervined on Pedro’s behalf and he bought the lawn care service where he was employed with his settlement.

They forgot to mention the suit for lack of adequate or proper supervision. I’ve handled claims for just that very thing in similar circumstances. Last one was thrown out on summary judgment; most are not that easy.

Having gone to college in a rural area I would guess that there were shotguns in at least a third of the trucks on campus (even if the state made it illegal on campus).
