I think it's time for a March on Washington to save our children's books, handmade toys and clothes, science equipment, and all the other things threatened by this poorly crafted law. We need to join together and show up in large numbers.

Congress is on recess this week (allegedly to give Senators and Representatives a chance to meet with folks back home -- none of mine seem to have scheduled visiting hours). Anybody up for a Washington trip next week? I really fear that every day that passes is another day of lost-forever books, lost businesses, harm to kids.

The only responses I've gotten to repeated calls and emails to my congressmen are form emails that explain the history of the law but fail to acknowledge my concerns much less offer any reassurance that they'll try to do anything about it (not even an offer to support DeMint's bill or the corresponding one in the House). Nobody is going to listen to us until we make a Big Group Stink, preferably one with good photo ops and the press there.

This entire law is badly crafted and shows once again the stupidity of our elected officials and highlights the need for a dramatic overhaul in the way laws and rules are passed. It seems a little stupid to pass a stimulus package that will cost billions and at the same time announce a death sentence to the millions of small businesses in the USA by way of CPSIA.

The shame is that our children will be further deprived of things designed to make them think because our government doesn't seem to have the ability to think themselves. Everyone should be writing their representatives and letting them know how unhappy they are about this badly crafted law.
