Zero Tolerance is always a temptation for schools wanting to simplify discipline and not have to consider complicated situations on a case-by-case basis. The principal probably thinks banning all physical contact is of little consequence to the lives of his students, but he is evidently unaware of “The Power of Small,” the idea that seemingly small actions can have major consequences. He thinks he’s preserving the safety of the students. True, there may be more safety, but he hasn’t considered the other more significant result of this. He is teaching the students to fear even the slightest brush against each other, essentially atomizing them.

Another reason why I homeschool. We give hugs all day long, and that is my payment. 🙂 Yes, the public school education will go down exponentially as more dumb rules come into play.

How can we expect children to respect the authority of educators, when they keep demonstrating that they are unworthy of any respect?

Dumb down the children’s education accordingly.
