Yes, OJ Simpson got off despite overwhelming evidence, but Martha Stewart was convicted with no evidence at all. And Ken Skilling was railroaded by a rabid community despite having one of the best lawyers in the country. 

A just society, which does not include ours, has screens:  first at the constable level in making an arrest, then at the district attorney level, then at the grand jury, then at motion to dismiss level, and finally at the jury level. The process should seldom be wrong enough where the defense lawyer would matter except for incompetence. In fact, lawyers failed to protect the unfortunate people caught up in the day-care center craziness, and there were many bogus &quot;recovered memory&quot; convictions.
