It seems to me that “incy” should sound like “inch” and “wincy” should be pronounced like “wince”. There’s just no “ee” sound in that “i”:>)

I was curious about the multiple spellings I’d seen, so before posting the item I looked up the comparative frequency on Google and found:

“eensy weensy spider”: 135,000 hits
“eency weency spider”: 78,400 hits
“incy wincy spider”: 540,000 hits

When something like one Eensy Weensy (the way I always spell it) Spider shutting down a $15 million construction project (all those jobs!) happens, I always wonder if some enviro-nazi put it there. Or maybe that parent quoted at the end of the story who doesn’t have to stand with the kids at the bus anymore since traffic has gone down…

On the Spider: if it lives in caves underground then how do they know it’s endangered? There could be millions living down there where we don’t see them.
