I immediately identified with him, since I had posed on my yearbook page attentively reading “Pravda” (upside down). I also listed my presidency of the “People’s Democratic Chess Club,” so named because two cronies and I were the only ones to show up for the annual election.

I am put in mind of Christopher Buckley’s farce “Supreme Courtship,” where one USSC nominee was shot down because in sixth grade he turned in a movie review of “To Kill a Mockingbird” where he mentioned finding some parts a bit boring– intolerable racism!!

Are school yearbooks going to have to switch to name-rank-and-serial-number format? Perhaps some pushback on this latest witchhunt could be generated among high school journalists.
