The fact that one could even file a suit over such a trivial matter is proof of how absolutely corrupt the entire legal system is. Yes, I mean, in the dictionary sense, corrupt: “having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.”

Scale this up in terms of supposed damages 1,000-1,000,000x for the usual fodder for this blog, but the principle is the same. The only people that get rich are the lawyers.

I agree with one of the commenters on the article that this is likely a hoax, whether as part of a marketing scheme, or a paid weekend in the big city for a reality TV show.

In reply to leafs004. She may have a good counterclaim for involuntary servitude as a movie reviewer. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 runs for 136 minutes, about 2.27 hours. TX minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. So she would have a claim of at least $16.43 in compensatory damages. The judge could rule that they both prevailed, and award her compensatory damages of $16.43 plus $.88 in punitive damages for the intentional tort, and they'd both go away happy. Amirite?

“Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2,” This is what is now considered a ‘date movie’, designed to facilitate amorous moods?
Though considering in my dating era that Pretty Woman, a tender tail of a prostitute and a John, worked as a date movie, maybe not so crazy.

He should glad that he got out of a doomed relationship for only $17.31. If he cannot hold her attention for two hours, and she cannot tune out her friends for the same, then good riddance is perhaps the best outcome.

As a resident of (loosely) the Greater Austin area, I am at a complete loss as to why anyone would take a date clearly uninterested in a (loosely) “superhero” movie to said movie, and further, why – having decided this was a wise use of time and money, they would do so at the Barton Square theater. That’s the cinema equivalent of taking a date to Taco Bell or McDonalds, when there is a Torchy’s Tacos and a P.Terry’s nearby.

Clearly, he’s on a budget, but there are better venues for his dime nearby.

At least he hasn’t grossly inflated his damages claim.
