Everyone should check periodically at “missingmoney[dot]com” to see if any “lost” money is patiently waiting for them to claim. Colorado used to do its own “Great Colorado Giveaway,” but now it’s linked through missingmoney.
I claimed a long-lost stock dividend payment that had been returned to the payor when I was between mailing addresses due to a move. (“Lost shareholder” letters had never caught up with me.) So, eventually, it had been posted at missingmoney, and I found it there.

Luckily, I had saved some of my [really old] investment paperwork and could support my claim with evidence of ownership & confirmation of my former residence address on that declaration & payment date.

Besides, it’s fun to go see what’s out there….

How do you not take the opportunity to use the word ‘escheat’ in a sentence?!
