I’ve finally replaced my aging PC with an iMac and am in the midst of the transition now — apologies for some email delays that have resulted. Mac’s native browser, Safari, doesn’t play well with Movable Type so I’m sticking with Firefox. I’m a complete newcomer to the iMac, so feel free to send useful tips about getting the most from it.

  • Congratulations on getting a Mac. If you get nostalgic you can always boot Windows on that Mac … blech!

  • I read Overlawyered everyday using Safari on my PowerBook, and I don’t seem to have any troubles. Good luck on your transition. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new Mac a great deal.

  • The site does read fine in Safari. The problem arises in uploading new posts to it through the MT interface — some Javascript insufficiency, apparently.

  • Post like this are always fun.

    -Congrats and exultations from the Mac fanboys
    -Mac slams from the PC/windows lovrs (and/or Mac haters
    -general comments about how stupid both are from the *nix types

    Notice that I didn’t say which I am, just that posts like this tend to be fun to watch.

  • The key to success seems to be the adoption of a suitably snobbish attitude commonly found in Mac users. Once you master this pose, all else falls into place.

    Sincerely-
    A platform “bilingual”

  • Forget Firefox too, go with Camino.

  • Here’s what works for me:

    * Web browsing: Firefox
    * Videos: VLC
    * Coding: Smultron
    * FTP: Yummy FTP (or RBrowser Lite)
    * Maintenance: MacMedic and AppleJack

    * Websites: macupdate.com, versiontracker.com

    Enjoy your Mac! đŸ™‚

  • Does MicroSoft Outlook have the same vulnerabilities in OS X that it does in windows? Are viruses easily able to propogate through OS X by means of Outlook?

    I am considering the switch, but the reason why I have not switched to Thunderbird, *nix, or OS X is because I am in love with Outlook and it’s really sexy interface… even though it is highly bloated and I use about 1% of the features.
