New federal push to force local schools to ban sweets

The feds apparently expect their newest incursion into local school autonomy to go as easily as taking candy from a baby, which always was a puzzling figure of speech [New York Times]

  • I think that their efforts would be better served in offering legislation to protect school districts from bullshit lawsuits. Then they can go back to allowing the children to burn some calories at recess.

  • When are the citizens of the country that threw off British rule because of a tax on tea going to stand up against the ever growing statism emanating from DC?

  • If a school does not participate in the National School Lunch Program, are they still subject to the new nutritional guidelines?

  • I don’t know of a public school that is not taking federal money for school lunch program.

  • It is about time. This is now the season where all those female youngsters are pushing their fat pills. They may appear wholesome but those ‘Girl Scouts’ are really scouts for the entire junk food industry. I say we all boycott their evil wares.

    (I hope people understand sarcasm.)

  • “…which always was a puzzling figure of speech.” Until now. Apparently it gave them some ideas.

Kurt, I got it just fine but there are always the tags: sarc, /sarc, if you want to make it abundantly clear. I don’t think it’s much of a problem in this forum though. đŸ™‚

Hold on a minute- I have to wipe the Thin Mint chocolate from my fingers…

  • Mmm, thin mints are a favorite and I enjoyed your response Bill H. Removing sweets from schools will not begin to solve the obesity problem in this country. Instead of attempting to correct a situation without government intervention through positive reinforcement, another reduction in our freedom of choice is being shoved down our throats. Has consideration been given to the economical repercussions this will present?
