Sebelius and health insurers: shut up, she explained

Eugene Volokh, Michael Cannon and Ed Morrissey react to the Secretary’s announcement that her Department of Health and Human Services will show “zero tolerance” for regulated health insurers who inflict “misinformation” on the public in the course of blaming ObamaCare for rate increases. More: Monday WSJ editorial (“Zero tolerance for expressing an opinion, or offering an explanation to policyholders? They’re more subtle than this in Caracas.”) And Michael Cannon at Cato at Liberty has a further roundup post of reactions.

  • Shut up and be ruled, seems to be the mantra that I hear a lot. That, to me, usually means the speaker is lacking in intelligence.

  • Is it true that there is a line on page 14,756 of the healthcare bill that repeals the Law of Supply and Demand?

  • Yes, Jack its true. But on page 14,800 it reinstates it and the resulting anagram spells “This bill sucks”.

  • @Doug:

It’s not intelligence, Sebelius is lacking. It’s ethics. He has the ethics of a tyrant. He should be hanged for that statement.

  • Mannie:

The he is a she. Anyway, I guess we have to expect stuff like that when you put a attorney in charge of healthcare? I wonder if we could put a doctor in charge of the legal system?

  • After citizen’s united, there could be nothing that better illustrates the point that corporate speech is speech worthy of protection, than this jackbooted comment by Sebelius. There are times when this administration really just creeps me out.

  • The he is a she.

Jeez! Can’t get away with anything around here! 🙂

I wonder if we could put a doctor in charge of the legal system?

Hopefully, he’d take it off life support. And then submit a fat bill including specialists you’ve never heard of.

  • The Obama Regime’s designated thug-in-designer-clothes Sebelius forbids all factual commentary from the industry they just seized in the ObamaCare Coup.

But they can pay Andy Griffith for a patently dishonest propaganda to lie to old folks and cover up the $500 billion in Medicare cuts from this very same nightmare bill.

  • @ Smart Dude:

How about “… makes the industry civilly liable for all provably false statements from the industry…” instead?

  • […] OK, then, it was Bush’s fault. Kathleen Sebelius writes letter to health insurance lobby warning insurers not to blame health care insurance hikes on ObamaCare. “There will be zero tolerance for this type of misinformation and unjustified rate increases.” What are you going to do if the insurance companies don’t stop the “misinformation” … tax them more? Oooh. I know. Arrest them for disclosing classified federal secrets? So the government wants to require insurance companies to provide coverage to everyone and prevent them “unjustifiably” raising their rates. Trust us … this whole health reform thing is going to work out juuuuust fine. See also comments and more links at Overlawyered.com […]
