Driver sues parents of teen he killed

Waterbury, Ct.: “A driver who’s serving a manslaughter sentence for striking and killing a 14-year-old boy is suing the victim’s parents, blaming them for their son’s death because they allowed him to ride his bike in the street without a helmet.” The hand-penned countersuit comes in response to the parents’ suit; it’s unlikely to help the inmate’s case that prosecutors say he was driving 83 in a 45 mph zone, a claim he denies, or that he had a history of drunk driving convictions. • Sounds like the two cases should move forward together with the same jury hearing the suit and counter-suit. If he wants to be an inflammatory ass then at least let it help the family’s case.

  • Bad test case, but had he a clean record I’d be interested in following it. If the kid had been younger, it might complicate things a little more, too.

  • A helmet is unlikely to make a difference when the vehicle is going 83mph. Of course, that misses the broader issue–that Weaving needs to man up and own up for the pain he continues to cause.

I hope that if Weaving goes before a parole board his actions here–his lack of remorse and accountability–are factors in him completing his entire sentence.

I truly wish the victim’s family the best.

  • Hmm, a hand-penned countersuit you say? Well, that certainly sounds like there’s a very expensive lawyer representing the respondent.

    Possibly.
