A father in Sterling Heights, Michigan, says his fifth-grade daughter “was racially harassed by a fifth-grade teacher’s reading aloud from a book about slavery.” [WFTV, Volokh]

  • There might be a case here. The children would reasonably be mortified at the behavior, language and general coarseness displayed in this passage. The teacher could only have chosen to read this for the purpose of harassing and discriminating against the white children in the class.

  • Reminds me of the white janitorial employee of Notre Dame who was harshly disciplined for reading an anti-KKK book in the presence of black employees. Yes, an anti-KKK book. “How the Irish fought the Klan” or something. Documented in James Edwards’ “Racism, Schmasism” book.
