“Should exercise be compulsory at work?”

A genuine headline at the BBC. “In 2010, China reintroduced mandatory exercises twice a day at state-owned companies after a three-year gap,” it notes helpfully. “Set up by the Communist Party, they had previously been running since the 1950s, with state radio broadcasting music at 10:00 and 15:00 for workers to do their set exercises.”

    • Each morning begins with the obligatory eyebrow-raising and soapbox-mounting, so that burns a few calories.

      • I prefer chin wagging, myself. For increased resistance, I simply put my foot in my mouth.

  • My at-work computer has an RSI-reduction program. If it thinks you’ve been working too hard, it makes you take a four-minute break to do some exercises intended to make you do things other than stare at a screen, mouse and keyboard. It is a determined master once it takes over your life.
